Hi! Wow this is my first post (how scary!)
Welcome to my blog!
I wanted to start with something that everyone has wondered at least once in their lifetime. What are the benefits to yoga? Why is everyone doing it? What good will it do to me? How do I start?
First of all, the purpose of yoga is to create strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and the body.
The physical benefits to yoga (there are loads, and I’m not sure I’m aware of all of them but here are some I’m sure of):
- Lower blood pressure
- Reduce insomnia
- Increased flexibility
- Increased muscle strength and tone
- Improved energy and vitality
- Maintaining a balanced metabolism
- Weight reduction
- Circulatory health
- Protection from injury
The mental benefits to yoga (yep there are some of these too!):
- Stress relief
- Helps with sleeping problems, drug abuse, inability to concentrate
- Gives you a more positive outlook on life
- Mental clarity and calmness
- Increases body awareness
- Relaxes the mind
If you don’t believe me, I can explain some of these. (I could in fact explain all of them if you wanted me to? Comment below)
Weight reduction – yes when I started doing yoga I lost 6 kilos in 2 months.
Reduced insomnia – I used to be quite restless before I did yoga, now I sleep like a cat.
Increased muscle strength and tone – yep I definitely look more fit.
Relieves stress relief – I’ve had quite a few job interviews since I started yoga, and I must say, I don’t think I freaked out for any of them!
Gives you a more positive outlook on life – yep I definitely try my best nowadays to be as positive as possible, whether it’s towards myself, my family, my friends, my job, my health…
So what else is there to say? How about you go out and grab a yoga mat and get your yoga on!
